Artist Statement
When she enrolled in a basic 6-week introduction to patchwork course in 1990 in Mt Isa, Australia, little did Sue Dennis know that this was the start of her long and successful career in the quilting industry. Sue has been a writer, national and international tutor, frequent exhibitor in invitational and juried shows, prize-winning quilter, and curator.
The dramatic Australian outback and coastal landscape influence her designs which are rich in colour and texture. Hand dyeing her fabric and adding meaning via printing, painting, rubbed surfaces, and machine and hand stitching are dominant features of her work.
Passing on her expertise throughout her teaching career has been very rewarding and also fueled Sue’s love of travel, culture and traditional textile techniques.
