Artist Statement
I create landscapes and abstract designs. I love to work with textiles because the nature of the fabric is adaptable to the surface design processes that I like to use, including collage, raw-edge appliqué, mixed media, screen printing, mono-printing, dyeing, and painting. I teach workshops on Broken Color, Mixed Media Collage, and Impressionistic Landscapes.
I am influenced and inspired by what I see around me. It can be landscapes, people, or designs in everyday objects. I look for patterns, textures, and colors that can be interpreted in fabric. Nature is a source of constant inspiration, even in my abstract work. With my landscape work, I pay homage to my Japanese ancestry and Japanese art focused on Nature.
