My chicken art began when 3 serendipitous things came together in my mind: watching Olympic ice skating on TV, learning about people in real life knitting sweaters for chickens, and seeing my neighbors' zany chickens run around their yard. The idea of creating whimsical and naïve chicken art lifted me, and I felt so joyful. Our world can be a dark and heavy place, and when I see humorous art, it’s a precious gift to have a light moment amid the bad news and chaos. Working on my first piece, “Chickens on Ice,” I grinned through the entire process. When I saw that the chickens made others smile, too, I knew this had to become a series. So began my slightly goofy chickens doing completely impossible things, in the appropriately accessorized attire, of course. I called them “Chickens Impossible.” Nearly everyone who sees them smiles. If you experience a reprieve from the world viewing them and take a moment for a small chuckle, I am quite happy. This series is all just for fun and smiles.
