Artist Statement
When one works with fabric, there is always an element of the mundane—cutting, shaping, sewing. Once the fabric is placed into a scene, it becomes something else—a vision of life in all its color and texture. The bits of fabric highlight the juxtaposition between something we take for granted and something amazing.
I use the photos I’ve taken from my travels to recreate scenes that evoke a memory. All of the landscape art scenes reflect where I have been, not only in a physical sense but also in an emotional sense. Each element—from a tree to a home to a mailbox—has its own place in the fabric of its physical space. The fabric designs and textures become integral to how I perceive the scene.
