Artist Statement
Ilse is a professional mixed media artist who resides in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada and graduated from the Alberta College of Art (now called Alberta University of Arts) having majored in fibre art.
Her art work has appeared in national and international exhibitions and has been published in both Canadian and American books and magazines. She taught both children’s and adult art classes for the Alberta College of Art, Continuing Education Department.
Creating both 2 D and 3 D art work, she investigates and explores the fibre art medium’s boundaries, creating a marriage of formal artistic principles with old and new techniques for working with fibres and considers her sewing machine to be her paintbrush. Ilse feels that working with environmental as well as conceptual ideas creates balance in her life.
