Artist Statement
Much of my work focuses on the impermanence of man-made objects and the stories they tell. Each object, no matter how big or small reflects the dreams and struggles of the people that built and used it and those stories live on in each one. By creating a dream-like feeling, I invite the viewer to think about the story beyond the image. Living in an area where urban and rural meet, I see construction and growth as well as decay and decomposition daily. This observation fuels my work.
I have made things with textiles since I was very young, and it speaks to me in all its many qualities of texture, weight, and color. The challenge of creating a reflection of the world I see around me in that medium continues to excite me to return to the studio every day.
