These fabrics started their lives as curtains in my great grandparents’ house in Jerusalem. After decades of use, when they started to wear out, my great grandfather used them as the walls of a Sukkah, a temporary structure built during the Jewish holiday of the Feast of Tabernacles. My great grandfather passed them on to my grandfather, and he to my own father. When my dad passed away, I inherited some of them. I used to make a quilt honoring my great grandfather, their original owner.
