Winter Shadows

During the winter months, when the trees are bare, and the colors outside include less contrast, the most interesting visual elements are light and shadow. Outside my kitchen window, I noticed the changing patterns that were created throughout the day by the sun shining across and through the trees, fences, and latticework in my yard. Every hour, as the sunlight moved in its path, a new pattern was revealed.

After a few days of observation, I decided to create a quilt based on the most interesting pattern formed by the sun. The early morning light created my favorite design, which I have captured here to share with the viewer.
