As a migrant, every piece of fabric I brought with me from Africa still connects me deeply to the country of my birth. I used these fabrics to tell the story of a place. It captures the things we had left behind: a home and garden, the sun-baked earth, and the food bowls of Africa. It shows swallows nesting at the back door, native birds on the window sill, grey bucks across the road, and the graves of our ancestors. Fabric transcends time as it holds memories and connects us to the past.
