Grouper is a leader in the social fitness movement. It encourages healthy living through meaningful social connections and shared experiences—like participating in your SAQA region. Eligible US participants age 65 and older, through their participating Medicare Advantage and Supplemental plans, can now receive a check simply for staying active.
This is a voluntary program and you may wish to complete the quick enrollment process to see if you're eligible. There is no catch. If the benefit is in your existing Medicare Advantage or Supplemental health plan, Grouper will send you a check for $50 and ongoing activity payments of $20 for each three months of activity after that if you stay active and keep Grouper updated on your in-person quilting activity. Note that participation in other programs such as Silver Sneakers may make you ineligible for this benefit (depends on your insurance plan).
Answering Your Questions:
Was SAQA hacked? No, SAQA was not hacked. The Grouper partnership was approved by our Board of Directors after lengthy consideration.
Am I going to get marketing emails from Grouper now? No, SAQA has not shared your contact information with Grouper. Unless you sign up through their site, they do not have access to your email address. SAQA will not be sending further marketing emails about Grouper.
How does Grouper work? Certain health insurance companies pay Grouper to administer "social activity benefits." This is similar to how some health insurance companies provide incentives to join a gym or quit smoking. "Social activities", like participating in a club, guild, or SAQA, lead to healthier outcomes. SAQA members who are 65+, live in the U.S., and use a participating health plan can get reimbursed for their SAQA membership dues through this program.
Are you asking me to change my health insurance? No! This program works through your existing insurance plan.
Why did SAQA sign up? This program helps eligible members pay for their SAQA membership. So, that allows more people to get involved with SAQA and stay active in our group.
I'm concerned about privacy, will my information be shared if I sign up? You can read Grouper's privacy policy here. Remember, SAQA has not shared your information. Grouper will only have access to your information if you sign up on their website.
I don't want to participate. Is that ok? Yes! This is completely optional.
I DO want to participate. How do I find out if I'm eligible? You can check your eligibility here. If your insurance company does not participate, you do not need to enter any personal information.
I need help paying for my SAQA membership, but I'm not eligible through Grouper. What can I do? Please apply to SAQA's scholarship program! There are no specific expectations or requirements. The scholarship can cover part or all of the cost of membership.
