Textile Talks: Yoshie Tokutake's Repurposed Indigo Quilts

Conversations with the Artists

"The way we live is in all the fabrics we use," says Yoshie Tokutake. "Fabric leaves a history of each person who wore it.”

Yoshie Tokutake uses repurposed indigo fabrics in her strip-pieced art quilts. In this Textile Talk, we visit her studio and gallery in Matsumoto City, Nagano, Japan.

“I never imagined this life for myself," she says. "I just couldn't waste the fabric, so I kept creating with it, and here I am today."

Yoshie is interviewed by Naomi Ichikawa, freelance editor, writer, researcher, author, curator specialized in quilts and former editor-in-chief of Patchwork tsushin, Yomiuri Quilt Time, QuiltDiary magazine. This interview was recorded in Japanese and will be shown with English subtitles.
