In 2017, textile sculptor Susan Else gave the closing presentation at the Next Symposium in Colorado. She was asked to examine "what’s next?” for the art quilt moment. To do that, she looked at her own work to see how it resonates with other work by contemporary art quilters and with the broader textile scene.
A resident of California, Susan has made collaged and quilted cloth sculptures for the past 20 years. Her work is figurative, and in the past few years, she’s added lights, motors, and sound to many of her pieces. She’s also a long-time SAQA member who serves on the Exhibition Committee and the Board of Directors.
