Yorgan: The Enduring Turkish Quilt

Join us for a special gallery talk with artist and guest curator Christine Martens related to "Yorgan: The Art of the Turkish Quilt" — an exhibition showing at the International Quilt Museum through Feb. 15.

An artist and teacher for most of her professional career, Martens has worked since 2002 as an independent researcher documenting and writing about textile traditions of Turkey and Central Asia. Martens has traveled to Turkey on several International Quilt Museum-sponsored research and collecting trips and has been indispensable in helping the IQM build its Turkish quilt collection.

Martens received her MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University and was on the Visual Arts Faculty at the Spence School in New York for over 25 years. Prior to that, she taught at the New School for Social Research and Parsons School of Design.
