Call for Entry Deadline

SAQA has been invited to participate at the 2024 Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show. Now in its 48th year, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show features unique, one-of-a-kind works by artists from across the United States. The 2024 Show will welcome a total of 195 talented artists representing 13 diverse categories of art and design plus 24 guest artists from Italy.

EXHIBITION DATES:

November 15-17, 2024
This is a single-venue exhibition - artwork will be returned by December 31, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY:

Artwork must meet SAQA’s definition of an art quilt: "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."

  • This call is open to SAQA members based in the United States only (this is a venue requirement)
  • There is no date requirement for artwork nor is there a theme
  • Artwork in previous SAQA global exhibitions (not currently traveling) and virtual galleries will be allowed
  • All artwork must be for sale (a 40% commission will apply)

Each artist can submit up to 3 pieces for consideration. The juror may select up to two pieces per accepted artist - the second piece will only be displayed if the first piece sells. Ideally these pieces would be similar in size (especially width).

ENTRY FEE: $50 USD for up to 3 entries. Entry fee must be paid online before the entry deadline via a credit card or PayPal at www.saqa.com/fees.

SIZE REQUIREMENTS:

No ceiling-hung or free-standing sculptural work will be considered. All work greater than 20" on longest side (including frame) must be able to roll.

Wall Mounted Works  – Max Height: 60"  Max Width: 48" Max Depth: 4"

NOTE: All wall hung art must hang either with stitched on sleeve (preferred), stretcher bars (20" or smaller), or other integrated hanging system. Accepted artists must provide all hanging apparatus and hardware necessary to display their art if it does not include a standard sleeve. Artwork must be able to fit through a standard 34" doorway.

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

It is critical that submitted images be of the best possible quality: in focus, with clear details, and following SAQA's digital image requirements. Read Tips for Successful Art Quilt Photography and  Submitting Digital Images first!

  • For each wall-hung 2D entry, submit one full view front digital image and one detail digital image.
  • Full-view images MUST show all the edges along with a small amount of background.
  • Detail images should be a separate image -  do not simply crop your full-view image.
  • Digital images must be saved as a high-quality JPEG or JPG file (No TIFF files). Do not use your name or initials in the filename (title is fine).
  • Finished images should be at least 2100 pixels on the longest side

Common errors include:

  • Images that are out of focus or too small
  • Cropping images too closely on the full-view image. All edges of the artwork  must be visible along with a small amount of contrasting background. Do NOT crop your photo into any part of the artwork as this may disqualify your entry.
  • Your background should be neutral and not include distracting elements such as hands, floors, studio, pets, pins, etc.
