Shared Experiences: Making the Invisible Visible

Non-SAQA
Exhibition

This solo exhibition is a compilation of abstract art quilts rooted in Christine Hager-Braun's history and in the stories shared by others about their experiences with mental health problems, chronic illness, or invisible disabilities.

Christine writes, "Yet my work does not focus on the pain, the darkness, or the isolation but instead emphasizes the resilience, perseverance, compassion, and hope I witness in the narratives.

Working with my hands, selecting and manipulating fabrics, sewing little pieces together, assembling many voices into one bigger story fosters my own continuous reflection on my past and my present but more than that allows me to share universal lessons stemming from individual pain and personal triumphs.

Using my voice as artist, I strive to normalize the conversation about emotional well-being, chronic illness and invisible disabilities by highlighting our inner strength. I aim to inspire others to engage in this dialogue, reach out for help when needed, become an ally, and find visual encouragement through my art."

Reception: July 26 from 6 - 8 pm
