“Make A Way” is a collection of work created in response to the United States' voting rights crisis. Four textile artists, Ileana Soto, Pat DaRif, Joanne Weis, and Valerie White, live in four separate regions of the country: CA, IN, KY, CO. They were each alarmed to see the effects of the 2013 Supreme Court’s repeal of protections for voters in southern states. Since 2020, states deliberately put laws in place to restrict the votes of people of color and people with fewer resources. They discovered they were each producing work to quell their deep concerns and asked, "Why not put our work together into an exhibit inspired by the work and words of civil rights icon John R. Lewis?" This exhibition is the result.
