Interpreting Mughal Indian Architecture/ Quilts of Fatehpur Sikri

Non-SAQA
Exhibition

The exhibition showcases a series of art quilts based on the architecture of the 16th-century Mughal Indian city of Fatehpur Sikri. The geometric forms of the building structures and the patterns of carving in red sandstone and marble are reconsidered and explored in stitching. The displayed quilts are accompanied by photos of the site and 19th-century architectural drawings, which were used to create the templates. The pieces exclusively incorporate a wide range of traditional and modern Indian textiles.

Reception: September 6 from 5 - 7pm
