A concentrated period of time in the studio is a gift I feel fortunate to have been given during the past several months. The work was able to evolve and grow. Some pieces flowed naturally to the next, others were developed side by side. There was an ease of travel between the subtler organic forms and colors, and the anchor of a grid or repeated geometric shape. My love of numbers, especially those divisible by five, could not let my 65th birthday go unnoticed. A few of the pieces reflect that in their dimensions, and in the case of Counting on the Family Jewels, also in its divisions. Creating these pieces was like a conversation with the painted fabric. There were often times the conversation included an imagined muse who laughed at my number clues and offered a critical eye.
