From the Woods

From the Woods is a melding of traditional patchwork and contemporary art quilt elements: Flowering hexagons with a patchwork square background against hand painted sky and water, enveloped in layers of land, mountains, and trees. I made this art quilt when I was still piecing, appliqueing, and quilting by hand, and it was fun to combine all that tradition with my hand painted fabric. For twenty years I have designed and made landscape quilts, and I've taught miniature landscape lessons for the past fifteen. Land and waterscapes are the reason I began exploring hand painting fabric, which has lead me to new art quilt techniques and designs.
