Winter Solstice

Alaska is a land of extreme seasons marked by drastic changes in temperature and daylight. During our short winter days, the sun travels in a low arc across the sky, descending at a narrow angle to the horizon and creating spectacular lingering sunsets. They are common on our short winter days and we take pleasure in their ephemeral radiance. Winter Solstice is a time for celebration for Alaskans because it signifies the shortest day of the year and a midwinter turning point. Going forward our days will get progressively longer and warmer, heading into our glorious Alaskan summer.
