I created Tyger in Tall Grass for a show called Momentary and Timeless at the San Jose (CA) Museum of Quilts and Textiles in Spring 2019. Researching artistic images of tigers I was amazed to see paintings, inked scrolls, even tattoo designs. One, with the hunting tiger almost submerged in tall grass, especially appealed. So does William Blake’s (1794) poem:
Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
William Blake
