Tree Traces

This work is focused on trees and the marks they make over time. A square of linen, inserted between a pair of vertically stacked logs, registers the shifts. Traces of that movement are documented in coloration from the bark and cut surface of the log, and by the disintegration of the cloth. My stitches call out that movement, gentle circles in fragments—the fundamental geometry of the tree in cross-section, and as future board-feet. Soft silk organza, dyed with the colors of a summer day, represents memories of air, light, and leaves.
