A Time to Dance, May 17th is the second
in a series of nine pieces that depict the unfolding
dance of a sandhill crane as it jumps and spins through
an ever-changing seasonal context. This piece is
inspired by early spring when alders are adorned with
long, hanging catkins and unfolding leaves that glow
like tiny green jewels in the rich blue violet of scattered
rainclouds and distant mountains. Layers of hand-dyed
and mono-printed sheers create a watery atmosphere;
the cranes are constructed from recycled clothing.
