Playing with marbles in the 1800s was quite popular and losing them was much dreaded; thus the idiom "to lose one's marbles" was coined meaning to lose something of great value, i.e. mental sanity.

Synapses between nerve cells make the brain amazing, but when neuron links become dysfunctional, brain disorders set in.

My mother-in-law suffered Alzheimer's; our friend is stricken by Dementia; a dear neighbor chose not to live with crippling Parkingson's. They all lost their marbles.

Polyester curtain fabric, 80/20 poly/cotton batting, clear vinyl, polyester thread, ink pencils, painters' canvas, wood pieces, glass marbles
Techniques
Brain and marbles were free motion quilted and colored with ink pencils, Mounted on the reverse side of a canvas, wood maze glued on and glass marbles.
