Since 2015, I have been working on a body of work relating to the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon. Target Practice was inspired by the story of their extinction. There once were 3-5 billion passenger pigeons in North America, and they vanished from the sky over 100 years ago, a loss of a quarter of the bird population on this continent. When I first learned about the enormity of what happened and how so few people knew about it, I felt compelled to respond. We need to pay attention to the consequences of our actions, the changes happening around us, and care for the life of and on our planet.
