The Summer of Magical Spells

The spring and summer of 2020 were a strange period. We can think about the sadness of having to shelter at home from COVID-19. But we can also view it as a time when the natural world opened up with a flourish. My garden became my haven. I spent hours listening to bird songs, uninterrupted by the sounds of traffic or airplanes. I watched the bees and butterflies fluttering around, and marveled at the brilliant colors of the flowers and the great variety of greens. It was a magical time, as if a spell had descended over the world giving nature the space to breathe. Now we must bring that magic back and protect our fragile earth from the ravages of man-made climate change.
