Suburban Nest

I have been a birdwatcher all my life. My bird quilts are based on my own photographs, taken with a long lens on my digital SLR camera. My favorite way to show the shading and texture of bird feathers is by using hand guided, free motion machine thread painting. This technique requires scores of different shades of thread, intensely stitched and layered to create the appearance of feathers.
