Santa Monica is part of a 12 piece series based on the Rand McNally Thomas Guide Book of Maps. I took each page that represented a coastal map of Los Angeles from Malibu to Long Beach.
I visited Santa Monica and took photos of its landmark pier with roller coaster and Ferris wheel.
Back in the studio I printed my images on fabric run through my inkjet printer.
An aerial view of the pier plays against the more prominent view of the wheel. Surfboards add further iconography to the piece, thus creating my impressions of Santa Monica.
