A River Ran Here

This dimensional piece reflects on a recent experience of flying over the length of the Colorado River from Wyoming as it meanders through the Southern states to Mexico's border. Some 25 years ago I took a similar fly-over at the same time of year and its waters flowed freely and beautifully South. This time, long before off-shoots of the Colorado River reach the Mexican border, it became a series of dried and cracked veins. I designed this convex work specifically using natural resist flours layered on the fabric with riverside clay and oxides as colorant, referencing the river itself in the making.
