Representing my ritual of a daily walk, along a local path that has sections of hedgerows that have been dated back to Saxon times. The cord that threads through the piece gives a suggestion of the path direction and how it winds through the housing development that dismissed its perceived usefulness to the current lifestyle. Time on the walk and in the subsequent stitching, for reflection and mindfulness, for mental health recuperation and rest.
Materials
Repurposed fabrics, from sheets, scrap box, old clothes and matting. Cords, string, wool, found objects and differing threads.
Techniques
Three-layered quilt, rust stained fabrics, raw edge piecing and applique. Hand pieced and stitched with running, blanket, satin and couching.
