Digital photography has been the starting point for most of my quilts. Being able to adjust and manipulate those photos, add textures, and apply various photography apps has given me a freedom to play and conceive of new ways to look at and apply images into a finished quilt. Red Sunflower began with a photograph taken by my husband along Highway 1 north of Santa Cruz. His enhanced image inspired me to try my hand at creating a mosaic of buttons and beads to recreate his photograph in quilt form. I had never collected buttons before starting this piece and now I can't stop!
