As the images of war in Ukraine filled social media and television, I was struck by the terror expressed in the faces of small children experiencing the terror of nightly bombing. I combined the figure of a small boy, a dark night, and a raven. The raven in European folklore is a metaphor for the ghost of a murdered person denied by circumstance a Christian burial. This ongoing tragedy will be imprisoning a generation in anxiety and fear.
