My work explores the intersection of drama and serenity through the use of line. I am fascinated by exploring how much I can distill and take away while continuing to convey the essence of my subject. I find interesting parallels here with my life decisions. There are so many fascinating things to do, but trying to do too many at once sacrifices the serenity I also need.
My Architecture series explores the interpretation of buildings in a minimal style while still conveying their essential structure and feeling. An added dimension to this work is my appreciation of the beauty of these human-made structures. Our species has much to be concerned about and these works pay tribute to those who built us places for our souls to pause and be restored.
Visiting Notre Dame in 2017, I was struck by exactly that intersection. This incredible structure has, for centuries, been a place of refuge and peace amid our chaos, whether small personal crises or large international ones.
