This piece was created using a combination of photos, people's faces, hands, feet and aprons.
Mother Earth is a Mom. My Mom to be exact. Geraldine Shelhamer lives in Sun Prairie Wisconsin when she's not creating more universes. She enjoys gardening, quilting and her dog Suki� you know, Mother Nature stuff.
Visual Cues include:
Mother Earth � apron, garden clogs, planets, plants
Mother Mary - open hand, planet pose, halo and trinity (trio) behind head and under foot.
Quan Yin - closed hand, yin yang button, lotus blossom and frankly I don't think there's anything more yin yang than a plaid apron.
And of course Mom's large and small always juggle.

Materials
Overdyed commercial cottons, personal hand dyed cottons, commercial cottons, tulle.
Techniques
Reverse machine applique was used to create all of the complicated imagery, with small amounts of Copic Markers to round out the large and tiny planets.
