“Methuselah” was based on the gnarly and wind-swept bristle cone pines of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Having seen so many tree quilts hanging on walls, I challenged myself to create a 3-D version to capture the magnificence of these amazing yet haunting trees, many of them thousands of years old. No hang-ups here, after taking over 1600 hours to complete, “Methuselah” (complete with rocks) demands its space to be displayed; “Off the Wall!”
Materials
Hand-dyed threads and fabric, wire, chording, glue.
Techniques
Hand dyeing fabric and threads, couching, collage, hand and machine stitched.
