The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo represent a tragic chapter in the history of Argentina. During the Dirty War (1976 to 1983), almost 30,000 individuals were forcibly disappeared, tortured, and killed by a brutal military dictatorship. The mothers and grandmothers of the disappeared ('los desaparecidos') gathered each week in the Plaza de Mayo to demand answers about the fate of their loved ones. Draped in their iconic white headscarves embellished with slogans and names, the Mothers became a symbol of hope. Their unyielding determination to unveil the truth and hold the perpetrators accountable is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of brutality.
