Art is made for many reasons. This piece is an example of art making as an aid to contemplation and decision making.
In the late 90s I was confronted with the necessity of choosing a course of treatment for a gynecological matter. However, when I began to study the options and weigh their pros and cons, I realized that I needed to work with the question visually. The act of drawing the original image and making an art quilt from that image allowed me to balance the rational considerations and the intense emotions inherent in such decisions in a way that helped me make a thoughtful, positive choice.
