Great Grandma Rosie's Hoverboard Cozy

In this work, the past of hand-sewn cozies and the future of hoverboarding intersect. A blue-coral palette pays homage to the Santa Cruz Screaming Hand, an icon of male-dominated skateboard culture reinterpreted as a feminist symbol. Other images parallel past and future with decay and rebirth: the pre-birth dark; buried broken hearts and bones bare new life; emerging wings to elevate and roots to ground; dream-like mushrooms recycle the past; the creative feminine takes action; the artist’s mind expresses itself; the soul elevates into the heavens. In four decades, women who came of age in the 80s will be great-grandmothers, applying their skills and memories in new ways, still truly punk.
