The special feature of this quilt is the extensive use of extremely narrow strips (visible portion less than 1/8") between many of the larger pieces. This replicates the use of such strips on collars and sleeve ends of kimono. The background uses a herringbone pattern made from several different pieces of black silk which reflect differently according to angle and composition of material; piecing this by machine required considerable effort.
