Fantastic

I like using traditional patterns as a design prompt. But how to make them interesting and new? Sharp angles. Mixed construction techniques. No fixed completion size. Allow the pattern to develop as I work. Fantastic has strata cut on a wonky angle. The fans were pieced together. Extra vanes were made to allow for the under and over effect. I appliqued the pieces to the background, avoiding fussy piecing. Suddenly Grandmother's Fan becomes a sinewy, twisting modern display of motion.
