In 2015, I started a new series of tree art quilts. This is the first of the series. I used non-realistic colors to force myself further towards the abstract concept. I had a fabulous multicolored fabric in my stash for the tree shapes, set against a background of black and white. I thought the dark fabric at the top looked like abstract leaves. Then I decided it also looked like roots so I used it at the bottom too. There is an extra layer of batting under the tree to add dimension. I appliqued the trees to the quilted background with black thread stitched along the edges.
