Made in response to a Cloth in Common prompt about biospheres in our community, Emerge represents the sprouting of an elephant ear leaf in my garden. I occasionally take my camera on walks around our property, especially in the morning or early evening. I was intrigued by the spiraling emergence of this leaf, and the way the sun bathed the plant. I consider myself lucky to find such beautiful vignettes just outside my door! I focused on contrasts, the unfolding form, and unity in creating this work.
Materials
Screen printed, hand dyed and ice dyed fabrics, vintage embroidered and crocheted tea towel, embroidery floss.
Techniques
Collage, raw edge hand appliquéd, hand quilted.
