This tribute quilt is based on a true story. Fictionalized letters between family members were used to create the timeline of events. In 1937, a life-saving yet cruel twist of fate brought Estera to the United States. She was to care for her daughter Fania. Unfortunately, Fania died before Estera arrived. Because of the Nazi occupation, she could not return home to Hrubiezow, Poland. Estera's grandson had vivid memories of her sitting at the kitchen table looking for her loved ones in the Rochester, New York Jewish Ledger. Tragically, only one nephew survived. Estera's extended family, including the families of her daughters Feigele and Sura, perished as part of Hitler's Final Solution.
