Caregiver

Everyone knows a caregiver or has been one themselves. I recently became a caregiver to my son, Carson, who has suffered severe brain damage due to lack of oxygen. Since his injury, Carson has been in therapy six hours a day, learning how to regain his short-term memory and walk again. He is a survivor. Carson has graduated from high school and is now attending college.

My role as his caregiver has opened my eyes to the role in other people’s lives as well. Caregivers assist the elderly at home, and people with memory issues or cognitive disabilities. Caregivers are often invisible but are vital to the quality of life for their charges. The definition of a caregiver is…Haven.
