This quilt was designed for Australia's Bicentenary exhibition in 1988, it was completed in 1989. The quilt had to have a strong Australian theme and it marked the beginning of my Art Quilt journey. Australian flora is a particular theme that runs through most of my work.
The art quilt movement in Australia was relatively young, but I had been seduced by the American quilting revival in the early 80's where I spent time in LA and Kansas City. This is where I learned all the basic techniques I would need for a career in textile arts and was inspired by so many wonderful quiltmakers.
Banksia won 1st prize in the Small Quilt category at the Quilters' Guild of NSW members exhibition, Sydney.
