The interaction between solar winds and the earth’s magnetic field produces the aurora borealis in the northern hemisphere and the aurora australis in the southern hemisphere, commonly known as polar lights. When the solar wind particles enter Earth’s atmosphere and auroras are formed, they take on a range of colors and shapes which may include curtains, coronas, arcs, rays, bands, veils, and diffuses. Part of the dance of light in this piece is made of silk fabric, sun-printed with gingko, maple, and fern leaves.
