I’m drawn to the highly intelligent magpie and based my narrative work ‘And Then There Were Three’ on one magpie who started visiting us to be fed. He pretty soon brought his partner, and we learnt they were nesting in a nearby tree. Shortly after, we began to hear a squawking baby bird making up the threesome. They all still visit, tapping on the glass to let us know they’re here.
