I'm a physician turned artist. As an artist, I value play and exploration of materials and techniques. I've been sewing since the age of 4--with some initial help from my mom and grandmother.
I got my first sewing machine at 8. I mostly made stuffed animals and doll clothes. My great-grandmother was a quilter. Although I never met her, I have two of her quilts. I designed my first quilt in high school, but it never came to be. I finished my first actual quilt in 2012. When designing my work, I like to design as I go, trying different techniques in the process. I like realism in portraits, pet portraits, and landscape quilts. My art also expresses my heart and has been a big part of my healing from depression and a neurological condition that ended my practice of medicine, as well as healing from a bone marrow transplant. The 2023 MN challenge, "New Beginnings," was particularly healing for me and created a love for mini quilts.
My gray tabby cat Stormy has an affinity for helping with all types of art and can usually be found somewhere in the middle of my projects. I am currently learning how to use Inktense pencils on fabric. I like the idea of memory quilting, having two in-progress clothing quilts as well as an in-progress table runner with neckties.
