While I still prefer mostly abstract quilts, where hand-dyed fabrics and quilting play a major role, recently, I have ventured into more realistic work. I love strong saturated colours, and spend a lot of time dyeing and printing fabric. Whether a surface design element on the fabric or an embellishment on the quilts, I often add text to reinforce the message.
While I do love nature, and enjoy walking and hiking, particularly since COVID lockdowns, I am more interested in humans, their feelings, behaviors, and actions, as well as man-made structures. I often draw inspiration from the lives of famous Hungarians, well-known poems, and popular songs. I am aware that this may limit the appreciation of my work, but I need a strong emotional bond to the theme.
In the past 10 years, I have mostly produced and exhibited quilts in collections, where each piece is linked to an overarching theme. The first of 18 equal sized quilts was inspired by poems by my favorite Hungarian poet Attila Jozsef. The second of 12 coat-shaped quilts paid homage to people who I consider heroes. Following this, I submerged into plant-dyeing and hand-stitching for three years, which resulted in Close to Nature in 2019. My most recent exhibition, on display in a Budapest gallery in September 2022, was entitled The Journey is the Destination to bring back memories of some of the places that I have traveled to.
